Tourist attractions in Maramureș

• Merry Cemetery Săpânţa: Death seen with different eyes at the Merry Cemetery. What started the popular creator Stan Ioan Pătraș is continued today by his followers. For its uniqueness, this may not be worth Landmark avoided.
• Bârsana Monastery: Built in 1724, the monastery of Bârsana is a representative religious edifice for the Maramureș architecture. Also in this place is waiting for you a folk art museum.
• Mocăniţa: Steam locomotive made in the 50s on a line running on narrow gauge railway built between 1930 and 1933 or, in other words, another opportunity to admire the Vaser Valley.
• Ieud wooden church: Is one of the most important, old wooden churches of Maramureș, surprising by preserving wall paintings, the colors and it's very high peak.
• Ocna Șugatag: Is a health resort, it is well-known for its salt water. Here you can treat rheumatic, gynecological or neurological diseases, using mineral water as aeroheliotherapy, hydrotherapy, hot and cold baths.
• Izvoare resort : attracts tourists through its special position in nature, a volcanic plateau in a mountain area. The area is noted for its landscaped slopes for skiing, but also for the many hiking trails quite easy to navigate.
• Șuior Complex is located under the Gutîi Mountains (Oriental Carpathians), 50 km away from Sighetu Marmației. Snow usually lasts from December till April.
• Borșa: health resort.

• The Memorial to the Victims of Communism and to the Resistance: Was created and is administered by the Civic Academy Foundation. The greatest victory of communism, a victory dramatically revealed only after 1989, was to create people without a memory – a brainwashed new man unable to remember what he was, what he had, or what he did before communism. The creation of the Memorial to the Victims of Communism and to the Resistance is a means of counteracting this victory, a means to resuscitate the collective memory.
• The Village Museum: As you see it today, leaves the impression of a typical village from Maramures. One straight road and several crooked roads or paths make up the inherent structure of the settlement and they all converge as in all Maramures villages, towards the church.
• Maramures Ethnographic Museum: The current collection of the Ethnographical Museum from Sighet, organized after a modern concept, was completed and has been available to the public since December 1971. The exhibits are displayed in open circuit rooms, structured according to the main categories of folk culture.
• Elie Wiesel Memorial House: In this house from Sighetu-Marmatiei, the Nobel Prize Winner, Elie Wiesel has spent his first 15 years of life. In 1944, Elie Wiesel together with his family and other 38.000 Jewish people from Maramures were deported to Auschwitz, Birkenau and Buchewald by the Natzi regim. In August 2002 Elie Wiesel himself opened the doors of the memorial house.
